In the tiger’s pride, eventhough the bond amongst these felines are very strong the grown up cubs sometimes have to disassociate themselves to discover who they are meant to be or where they belong in the world of predators.
The De-Bordes pride or sometimes referred to as “the tribe” has experienced this trend of disassociation to discover self many times in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Ghana is not an exception.
The Ghana wing of the De-Bordes pride began some 13 years ago in the midst of Abotri ke Tahuumo, Taekwando and Karate which dominated its landscape. Amongst its pioneers were Major Eric (Bruce) Yemo and Harold (Ayite) Quaye and countless faces of devoted and not so devoted to this weird but fascinating feline fighting art.
The Lumpat Harimau Minangkabau Silat training in Ghana was almost a replica of the backyard training that the United Kingdom’s branch of the De-Bordes pride started with. This heralded the birth of western Harimau Minangkabau Silat.
The backyard training was unstructured, gradeless, in your face no- nonsense realism of feline combat that only the tough survived. Perhaps amongst the survivors of Ghana’s branch of the De-Bordes pride are Major Eric (Bruce) Yemo and Harold (Ayite) Quaye.
Unfortunately, they like many grown up cubs left the pride to discover their place in this world of predators (the food chain).
After 9 and 5 years respectively these two lost wonderful specimen of tigers have wandered back this year to the De-Bordes pride and are championing the course of the real tiger. They, supported by Dave, William amongst others are keeping our Silat flame alive in Ghana.
